MARHABAA!
That day when I noticed a pamphlet at my doorstep from Maid4u.ae, due to hectic schedules during Ramadan, and as Eid was a few days away, I decided to give it a try when I remembered that my friends were recommending this company during our social gathering.
At first I went through the pink pamphlet, very professionally designed and informative, before I dialed their number. From the call to the service, it was a smooth and a friendly experience all the way through. The booking was made at 2pm and it had to be a minimum of 4 hours, at a rate of AED 35/hour. Normally you would expect them to be late by ten to fifteen minutes, but to my surprise they were ten minutes early. Two polite cleaners- a male and a female, greeted me with a smile and they were all ready with their cleaning materials. They wasted no time when I told them to start wherever was convenient for them. From the kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms to the laundry and ironing, the service was excellent. They both seemed to be enjoying their work. I must say having had them around was great. As soon as they were done, they handed over a ‘Job Completed Report & Checklist’ that had to be checked and signed, not only for the service, but also for the amount paid for to the cleaners. Moreover, the next day, I had received a call from Maids4u. to provide my feedback about the service. I would definitely love to have them again. Nevertheless, there is just one thing that annoyed me, was that they would keep calling you every week to check when you would like to book for the next service. Bullying is when one person uses force on the other person by making him or her feel that he or she is not important and does not deserve any respect. This is the main issue that requires attention from parents, children and teachers.
The two main questions that each child needs to be asked are, “Are you being bullied?” and “Are you bullying anyone?” If the child answers yes to any of these questions, then there is a serious issue. Most of the time kids act based on what they see around us. We as adults are the ones who set examples to them and they will grow up in the environment they have been brought up in. From an early age, when kids mingle with siblings, cousins and friends, they have to be taught about mutual respect, empathy, care, love, sharing and rewards and punishments. It is not because a child is younger than the other that responsibilities should be given only to the elder. They should be given a chance to “be in the other person’s shoes”, thus allowing them to feel for and understand each other. It is always best to be a good listener and constantly encouraging them to communicate their emotions about their surrounding. One time I visited one of my friends and she was telling me how her four-year-old daughter Nina, was a victim of bullying as she started school. Nina is a very quiet and well-mannered girl. So, when she joined the school, after a couple of weeks, two girls started pestering her. At times they would steal her lunch, or her pencils or hair-band till one day when she refused to give in, they pushed her in the toilet floor and Nina’s arm got sprained. Nina had hidden her daily qualms from her parents. My friend told me that she did notice that sometimes Nina would not eat her dinner or she would not go out to play with the neighbour’s kids like she used to do before joining school, however, Nina’s mother never tried to find out what bothered her daughter or why was there any drastic change in her. Ultimately, the two girls were properly counseled by their parents, teacher and school principal, and Nina on the other hand, recovered from her injury. Bullying does not happen only at school but in school buses, as well as at the babysitter's place. We should ensure that working parents put their kids at safe places, especially those babysitters who have no license to babysit at their residence. Again, one of my neighbours was shocked the day her daughter came to her crying her heart out. She claimed that the babysitter used to slap her and tell her not to inform her parents or anyone about it. She also used to give her kid cold food or occasionally, no lunch at all. Without losing any second, the parents confronted the babysitter. Nonetheless, as there were no marks on the girl, they decided not to lodge any complaint against her, but to discontinue her service. Seeing the girl’s braveness, the other kids whom the babysitter was taking care of, finally voiced out their agony. If you know that your child is bullying anyone, it is best to stop them right there and start finding solutions, such as group work, team building, building their self-confidence and self-esteem and making sure that they are in a healthy environment where respect and empathy prevail. Consequently, there are many bully stories to spread awareness that kids need to be exposed to which can act as eye-openers. |
